Humpty Dumpty Revisited
Most of us are familiar with the following nursery rhyme:
Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses
And all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty
There is a lot of similarity to us in these lines. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall . . . and so did we. Humpty Dumpty had an unsolvable problem . . . and so do we. But thankfully, ours has a solution!
Jesus Christ came to our wall,
Jesus Christ died for our fall.
So that regardless of death and in spite of sin,
Through grace He might put us back
Our desperately needed solution can only be found in God’s gracious gift when He sent His Son Jesus Christ to be the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14). Our fall was the result of sin (Romans 3:23; 5:19) and leads to death (Romans 5:12; 6:23) – a hopeless situation that we cannot solve! Amazingly, Jesus willingly took our sin on Himself and paid the penalty that was due (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 10:12). He “put us back together” by forgiving our sins, giving us eternal life, and adopting us into His family (Colossians 2:13-14; Ephesians 1:5-7; 2:4-7)! We are implored to receive this gift by turning to God and trusting in Christ’s work as our only hope (Acts 20:21; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16-18).
How about you? Are you still spiritually broken? From a song by the group Big Daddy Weave:
“If you died tonight, where would you be? Where would your soul spend eternity? Jesus gave His life, if you’d just believe, it changes everything”.
