Christmas in September

Merry Christmas! (Yes, it is September.)

I jokingly say, with some grain of truth, that Christmas for me is not a season but a state of mind.  When we have large Christmas Outreach events, it takes months of planning and rehearsing and it seems that I listen to Christmas music literally all year long.

This year I am fascinated with the stories of Christmas.  Iconic animated features like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the festive music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, or beloved stories on film like It’s a Wonderful Life; have grown to be a part of our celebrations each year.  Yet the true story of Christmas – the story of God becoming a baby to save a lost world by dying on the cross for our sins – is timeless and the reason why we celebrate.  This real story of Christmas transcends the season and should be celebrated every day of the year.  The story of Christmas never changes – yet Jesus changes everything.  I trust that your life’s story is forever changed and becomes part of God’s story of Christmas, hope, and salvation.  Merry Christmas.
