The Majesty and Glory of God
The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays His handiwork. Day after day it speaks out; night after night it reveals His greatness. There is no actual speech or word, nor is its voice literally heard. Yet its voice echoes throughout the earth; its words carry to the distant horizon. Psalm 19:1-4
My family recently returned from a trip to Alaska. To say that the scenery in Alaska is breathtaking is an understatement. It is majestic, glorious, awesome. When I look at these adjectives, I see words that describe not only the creation, but, more correctly, the Creator. In Romans 1:19 and 20, Paul writes “the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of His divine being.” (The Message)
Ah, but you say, we aren’t surrounded by the massive snow-capped mountains and the sprawling crystal blue glaciers. No, we aren’t! But God displays His creativity in every part of His creation. As I write this, I am watching various types of bees flying up to harvest the nectar from the beautiful flowers gently blowing in the wind. The clouds in the sky are billowy and continually changing in shape and color. A cardinal and his mate cross my path as they gather food for their young. Do you get it? Whether it’s in the expansive mountains, or the tiny hummingbird, God delights in sharing His majesty and His glory with you, His beloved creation. As you bask in His handiwork, remember that there is truly only One who is awesome!
